Fjallsárlón Lagoon is smaller than Jökulsárlón Lagoon, so the glacier is much closer. There are fewer visitors to this lagoon so if you choose to visit it you will enjoy the relative isolation of this space. If you like a personal touch the boat trips, brought to you by Fjallsárlón and Iceland Buddy tend to be smaller, making visitors feel really special.
The beautiful glacial lake Fjallsárlón lies on the south side of Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest icecap. Scattered upon the lagoon, icebergs that have calved from the glacier float in serene splendour. Öræfajökull glacier, the tallest volcano in Iceland towers over the lake.
The surrounding scenery is stunning with silver waters swilling along the dark base of the mountain rock. The blue, white and striped glaciers and icebergs float ethereally before they melt into the surrounding waters. The ice has a crystal clarity caused by the weight of the glacier.
Whilst floating on the lake between the icebergs sculpted into shapes by wind and water, your tour guide will share with you the history of the area and the geography of the surrounding landscape. Get close up and personal with the blue and white of the surrounding icebergs and the glacier from which they were calved.
