Did you know that beer was banned in Iceland from 1915 to 1989! Nowadays, the Arctic island is home to some exceptional breweries and is sold all over the world, even in Disneyland. The golden liquid is extremely popular by Icelanders and the most popular beverage of choice for many. Icelanders are so passionate about their beer that they’re creating some seriously innovative experiences at their breweries. In Árskógssandur, located in the far north of Iceland, you’ll find a particularly fascinating place, – Bjórböðin Brewery and Restaurant. There you can even enjoy a warm beer bath in the island’s first beer spa.
The concept of a beer spa and bath likely sounds quite foreign. However, beer yeast is actually quite healthful. It is rich in chromium as well as a good source of several B-complex vitamins which keep the skin, hair, eyes and liver healthy. Beer baths can help detoxify the system, regenerate skin, and relieve joint pain and even indigestion (some say). At this luxurious beer spa visitors can treat themselves to a soak in warm beer and even treat themselves to a cold one while they bathe.
The Bath tubs, made from Kambala wood, are 7 in total so we can have about 14 people each hour. It is available for people both one at a time or two together. There is no age limit for the beer bath because the bathwater is undrinkable, but there is a beer drought at every tub for anybody over 20 years of age. 16 years and younger need to be accompanied with adults.
When taking a beer bath, you bathe in a big tub filled with beer, water, hops and yeast.
We recommend skipping your bathing suits for the beer baths.
But if you feel better bringing them, that's all right too.
