Christmas and New Years Day are special to most people. Why not commit this year’s holiday to the memory of an incomparable horse ride in the volcanic landscape, just outside of Reykjavik. Animal lovers and nature lovers will be totally enchanted by this unforgettable tour brought to you by Íslenski Hesturinn and Iceland Buddy.
The Icelandic horse is like no other on earth. This is a small horse, originally bred from ponies that were brought to Iceland by Norse settlers more than a thousand years ago.
Icelandic people love these animals for their gentle charm and sure-footed loyalty, and you too will find yourself drawn to these affable creatures. These animals are able not only to walk, trot and gallop, but can tölt as well. You will be introduced to this gait during the fifteen minute riding lesson before the tour.
Even if you are an experienced rider you will enjoy this short lesson as you learn to tölt and to communicate with the horse that will paired with you according to your skill level. You will also receive background information on the history of the Icelandic horse.
Head out on your horse for an hour and half of riding through the beautiful and alien landscape around the capital city. As you follow the lead guide, you’ll pass picturesque mountains, a lake and colourful volcanic landscapes, where red psuedo craters lie scattered about.
Make sure to wear warm clothes and sensible shoes. You will be provided with riding equipment. Regrettably the trip is not suitable for children younger than twelve.
Be dressed for outdoor activity and in accordance to weather and/or season and please bring your good humor :)
