The Gulfoss waterfall is not Iceland’s largest, but it is arguably the Arctic nation’s most famous. Dubbed “The Golden Waterfall” for the unearthly golden glow and shimmering rainbows that light up its ravine during the autumn months, Gulfoss is located near the mighty Hvítá river in Southwest Iceland. You might know it as one of the “Big Three” of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle tour route, but the territory surrounding Gulfoss offers much more than a quick stop on a touring path. On this tour offered courtesy of Mountaineers of Iceland and Iceland Buddy, you can explore the magnificent Gulfoss waterfall and then embark out to the incomparable Langjökull glacier via snowmobile for an exhilarating winter adventure.
Departing from the Gulfoss Café, you will take to the east side of the Langjökull glacier on one of Mountaineers’ modernized snowmobiles. For roughly an hour and a half, you will explore the second-largest glacier in Iceland and the location of some of the island nation’s most ethereally beautiful ice caves. This exhilarating tour is a great way to top off the Golden Circle route with an additional winter wonderland adventure. All safety equipment is included in the tour – all you need is a set of warm clothes, a camera, and a sense of adventure!
We recommend that you bring warm & wind proof clothing in addition to good, waterproof hiking boots and a camera.
